Help with category page template

Hi there, I could use some help. I’ve looked around but can’t find quite what I need.

I’d like my category pages to display links to subcategories with descriptions if subcategories exist in that category, but not the posts.

And when subcategories don’t exist, links to the posts with excerpts in that category or subcategory would appear.
