• Hello. I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this, so sorry if it’s not! So I have a new site all done and ready to go live with namecheap. I have a domain name on godaddy. To get it to work do I start by changing the nameservers on godaddy to point to namecheap? And then after that I change the site URL within my wordpress site and done, right?

    Thanks!

  • Your “pointing” plan is about right… unless your host (Namecheap) requires some special setup before they recognize your external domain… in which case you’ll need to contact your host for their specific instructions.

Just one small detail to add: if you’ve fully built out your site on a temporary domain, all uploaded files will contain that temporary domain in their URLs. Some managed WordPress hosts have a “staging to live” feature that will automatically replace ALL the staging domain URLs to the live domain. But, in most cases of traditional shared hosting, you’ll have to use a plugin (eg “Better Search & Replace”) to manually scan the entire database and update ALL the URLs to use the new domain.

    Good luck!
