On an individual menu item when wp mega menu is turned on you will see three stretch options along with a width option as shown in the following image

You can also manipulate various stretch options from the wp mega menu theme settings

so for the first option i don’t get those options to set the width. does that come with the Pro version? cause it looks different than mine.
for the second thing I changed the width but it has zero effect on the menu it stays stretched across the entire screen no matter what i set the width too.

Sorry, the free version doesn’t have all the features enabled.
i ended up buying the pro version and still cant change size of the navbar

yes its being saved to the header I have theme assigned but i dont see how to set it to a menu location.

i looked at everything everything is exactly as it should be still there is only one place to change the width of the bar and no matter what i change it to ive tried both percentage and pixels and nothing changes no matter what i change it too. I feel like this is a complete waste of time. im going to have to accept this is a major limitation that dispite having the option to change there is no way to change it. ive spent a week on this time to find another menu that will work for what i need to match my site.
