I have been reading forums and watching youtube videos on how to restore a WP MU backed up with BackWPup, but I am encountering a number of problems.

I am restoring the backup onto a Ubuntu Linux web server. The old sites had SSL, and 2 sites. the zip file is not corrupted, yet I have to wonder if the pictures got backed up. I was using child theme and SKT White Pro.

The closest I have been able to get is the front page with no pictures. I can’t access the rest of the pages for either site.

When I restored the backup, I first installed a lone copy of WP. Then I restored the sql file to that folder. Afterwards, I used FileZilla to move all backed up files to the new WP folder.

So, the question I posed to SKT Theme and their response was the following:

I installed your theme as a multi-site, since it was felt it would be easier to maintain. Now, we have experienced a problem and have been trying to restore the site for the longest time. We used backwpup and got what appears to be a good backup, but can’t seem to restore it to the look we had before.

    So here are the questions.

    1. Would it be easier to restore if we just installed them in their own directories?

    2. Is there a way to get some help restoring them?

    3. Is there any assistance we can get to separate them into their own sites (only 2 were made).

    4. I suppose if we are forced to create 2 separate site, we need to buy another instance of the theme.

    The response I got was:

We can only answer the 4th question which is regarding theme: No you need not buy 2 instance. One theme is sufficient. Rest all the other questions are in regards to general WordPress installation, hosting, transfer and maintenance which aren’t covered in theme support.

You can either hire a WordPress developer for that purpose or can do it on your own.

So, if there is anyone out there who can help, let me know. After close to 6 months of having no hair, having pulled it all out, I am tired of the cold.

If I understand correctly, yes. Did not modify config files. But I have to wonder if it could be a setting problem in Linux too. I have little experience with Linux, so I am unsure where to begin.

Considering my last attempt to restore resulted in a partial viewing, I have to assume some of what I did was correct. This was why I was wondering if an individual site and backup would be easier, not to mention less complicated. I need this to work flawlessly with little work on my part, since who can afford the time learning the extra stuff.

The problem is that i must see the complete think. DB, Backup archive, filesystem to can say what happens. That we can’t do for free. Plase write to support at backwpup dot com for an offer.

I understand why you want to communicate offline regarding prices. I would be embarrassed to make public that you want to charge a daily rate of 840€+VAT for 6 to 12 hours to solve our problem.

Considering that we have recovered our own data, and not the web site, without any assistance from anyone is sad. Don’t worry about us wasting anymore more of your time. We will start looking for a more reliable backup plugin elsewhere.
