TaxoPress is assigning hidden tags a canonical link that doesn’t represent the page. It’s causing an error in aHref of “Non-canonical page in sitemap.” The plug-in needs to omit the hidden tag from clouds and lists, but keep canonical the same for Google and other search when reading the page.

Another option would be for the hidden tag landing to not exist at all. If there isn’t enough posts referencing the tag, then don’t render the page. Instead omit from sitemap and redirect to the home page. But leaving the page orphan would be best because it could be referenced by content.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Thanks for reporting this @jwhconet. We’ll take a look at improvements to this in the next release of TaxoPress: https://github.com/TaxoPress/TaxoPress/issues/2915

Can you share more on what you mean by “assigning hidden tags a canonical link that doesn’t represent the page”?

Turning on hidden Tags, gives those tags without the minimum number of posts the root URL for the site. In the source code of the /tags/tag-keyword/ the canonical in meta data is set as the root URL. It should stay set to the page itself. I’ll continue this conversation on the ticket in Github.
