Ah jetpack related posts. Separate plugin but a logical feature request, nevertheless.
I’ll look at adding it shortly
Actually I have looked at the code and it can’t easily be done, due to a limitation in jetpack related posts anything that is publicly queryable will be displayed by jetpack and this can only be filtered by taxonomy or post id (my plugin uses post_status).
It would be 3-4 hours work for me to create a work around and given I don’t like introducing fudges to handle shortcoming in other plugins I am reluctant to do this
Can I suggest an alternative fix?
This plugin allows you to manually set the related posts for each post:
https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/lh-jetpack-related-posts/
so you could work around it that way. Alternitivel you can set LH Archived Posts Status plugin to make archived posts not publicly queryable, although this may not be what you want…
Thanks. I looked into the related posts plugin, but I’m concerned since it requires another plugin that hasn’t been updated in a couple years, and manually setting related posts for each blog post would get pretty time consuming.
Is it possible to have a setting for Can Archived Posts be read publicly between the current “YES” and “NO” options? For example, to have a post not be publicly queryable, but still allow non-logged in users with a direct link to see that post?
Thanks.
No theer is nothing between publicly queryables and not, sorry.
I can understand the issue about setting each with posts related posts manually, not sure there is anything that can be done on that. Don’t be concerned with the posts 2 posts requirement, it is a robust plugin used by thousands of websites and still works 100%

Thanks. I’ll give that a go!
Just an update: It works great. I got confused at first because I thought I could pick more than three posts and the plugin would randomly choose which to display, but when I did that, no related posts displayed. However, when I chose exactly 3 posts, it worked perfectly.
Thanks much for the recommendation and for designing the complementary plug-in.
