Hide page in menu
-
Hello – please I need some help!
I am using Sela and I just uploaded the static page, but now I have the name of the static page in my menu and I cannot get rid of it.
I looked at forums and there was suggestion of making a new menu – which worked! but then all my posts were gone.
Can anyone help? π
much appreciated!

Hi Virgina, welcome to WordPress! When requesting help in the forums, it’s always appreciated if you provide a link to your site so we can help you more easily.
Is this your site? http://www.bitesfortwo.com/
Did you get the menu issue sorted out? Your menu looks good to me, but I’m not sure what you had in mind. Thanks!
Hi Kathryn,
Okay – thank you for the tip!
In the menu of http://www.bitesfortwo.com you will see home, about, recipes and then in black a long sentence: KITCHEN LOVER, FOOD ENTHUSIAST & COOKING FOR TWO
But I dont want that sentence there – it came there because of the static page I created.
Thank you for your help!
Virginia
Sounds like you just need to create a custom menu under Appearance > Menus, and then assign it to the theme’s primary menu location.
Until you do that, your site’s default menu will be displayed, which includes all your pages with their default titles.
Here’s a guide to creating a custom menu:
On second look, seems like you already do have a custom menu. You just need to rename the default Navigation Label for your last menu item to something shorter. You can see exactly how to do that in this step:
https://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/WordPress_Menu_User_Guide#Customising_Menu_Items
Yes i did that but then all my posts were not under the specific sections anymore – any idea how to do that?
Hmm, changing the navigation label of one item shouldn’t affect the rest of your menu, it only changes the wording of that one menu item.
all my posts were not under the specific sections anymore
What exactly do you mean by this, can you be specific?
Hi Kathryn,
If you now go look on my blog you will see that I fixed the menu BUT click on recipes and click for example Juices and Smoothies – you will see that there are no recipes. Even though there are!
Hence, I will need to go to the individual post and re-link them. But I am not sure how because it doesnt give me the choice of choosing a different menu to link it to – does that make sense?
thank you for your help!
If I go to your Juices & Smoothies category linked from your drop-down menu, I get to your category archive page for Juices & Smoothies:
http://www.bitesfortwo.com/category/recipes/juices-smoothies/
Scrolling down the page, I see these three posts:
Strawberry Ginger Smoothie
Coconut & Orange Juice
Blueberry & Mango Smoothie(All look delicious by the way!)
Sela displays an excerpt of each post on the category archive page – the first portion of the post. If viewers would like to see the full post they need to click the word “Continue Reading.” Once they click through to the full post, they’ll be able to view the recipe.
This is the way Sela is designed – category archive pages display the post excerpt, not the full post.
If you prefer to have the full post displayed on category archive pages instead of the excerpt, you’d need to create a child theme, and then make some modifications to the theme. It’s possible to do, but will require some customizations. If you’re interested in knowing how to do that, just let me know and I can point you in the right direction.
Hi Kathryn,
Thank you for your post! I understand everything about the full post and excerpt – after all I place the “read more” link in my blog post when i write it.
That is not the problem – the problem is my menu. But I clearly have to ask someone local here to help be because we are not getting to the outcome! π
thanks!
Yes, I’m sorry we haven’t been able to get this sorted out!
I think where I’m getting stuck is that I’m not sure what you mean when you say that you don’t see any recipes here, for example, when I do see three posts with recipes:
http://www.bitesfortwo.com/category/recipes/juices-smoothies/
Hopefully you’ll be able to get to the bottom of this with someone local, good luck, and let me know how it goes!
