Hide the dismiss button?

    Hi, how can we disable the dismiss button?
    Obviously, we can use CSS to hide it or turn it into an X as per your tutorial, but how to completely disable its rendering to avoid unnecessary CSS and HTML?

    Hi @psodfj,

    We don’t have an easy solution, as it is required per GDPR guidelines. The easiest way would be indeed hiding the button, or relocating the button with CSS.

    I think removing the button will either require more Javascript, or CSS to change the lay-out (after removing a button) which also defeats the purpose of removing unwanted code.

    This will remove the dismiss button and achieves the same purpose.

    Most sites I stumble upon show only an “Accept” button and “Settings” where tracking cookies are disabled by default. Then in Settings clicking “Save and accept” the user can accept only the functional.

    Are you saying this behaviour is not GDPR compliant? Do you have a reference for the requirements for these elements on your website?

    Hi @psodfj,

    I will see if our lawyer can post a reference, with some more explanation surrounding interpretation.

    But the reading is quite clear. Dismissing the banner should be as simple as consent itself, the latter being mostly focused upon. This means, with an Accept button on the first layer, dismissing consent should not require more steps, nor does the manner in which both should work or are designated as this could cause confusion.

    Ethically I agree, what’s optimal for business is another matter though 🙂 I would be very curious to hear what your lawyer will say. Can I subscribe somewhere so I don’t miss their response?

    Hi @psodfj The national data protection authorities explicitly require that a Reject button (or Functional Only) is displayed with

    equal prominence

    to the Accept button.
