I’m trying to get rid of the original page that wp gives me because I don’t want the blog information on our home page. I also can’t change font colors and and other settings with that page. I tried to redirect the blog page that wp gives you to our new home page, but nothing seems to be working. Any advice?

It’s possible to create a WordPress page and then have that be the “home page” for your site.

    From http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Pages#Using_a_Page_as_the_Front_Page :

Using a Page as the Front Page

A Page can easily be set to be your site’s Front Page. Visit the Administration > Settings > Reading panel and under Front page displays, you can choose to set any (published) Page or Posts Page as the Front Page.

You then create *another* page and set that to be the one where your blog posts will appear.
