Home Page – Responsive Theme

I wanted a static page for my home page – I created a couple of new pages and then assigned my new page as my home page and my old home page as my blog – I have a background color of red and when i open my home page the text box is also red. Is this a bug? I recreated the page and tried it a second time with the same results.
I am using the Responsive Theme.
