Hi, I see an old topic on here about alternatives to Google Maps now that they require a credit card even for the free tier usage. Curious if that’s still in the works? Or as an alternative, can you offer any pointers on where I might be able to hook in my own map code? Thanks! David

  • Hi,
    EM User here too.

To really replace the Google Maps API you will need more than just one hook 😉

In fact, for the last couple of days I have been working on a 100% replacement add-on for OpenStreetMaps. It will only use an OpenCage API (free) if you add or edit a location. Showing the map on the front-end is free from any limit. 😀

I have already submitted it to the WP Repository earlier today. If they approve the plugin, it will be available sometime this week.

That’s great news! I’ll keep an eye out, what’s the plugin name? Or if you post here when it’s approved, I’ll be among the first beta testers…

I would love to have you test it. There might always be something I missed 🙂
I will let you know as soon as it’s launched.

YEEY!!! It available to everyone now:

Fantastic! Downloading now, will let you know how it works. Thanks for putting this together.

Let me know what you think on the other plugin forum 🙂
(Let’s keep this one strictly for EM)
