Horizontal bars in link section

I’d like to change the links on my blog entries, but can’t tell how. (I have an integrated board.)

I get this:

Post Title
Date by author Edit |

Content

Posted in category1, category2 | Edit | Discussion »

I’d like the second line to look like this, instead:

Date | by author | Edit

I found the code in index.php, but I must be doing it in the wrong place, since it’s removing links and/or not visible. Any help?
