I have just started using Gutenberg and have created a list block. I now need to embed a code formatting block inside this list and cannot figure out how to do so.

I also tried making a list block followed by a code block followed by another list block to accomplish the same goal, but I could not figure out how to make the second list continue numbering from where the first list left off.

Help! How do I make this work? Thanks!

  • Hi!

It is not possible to place blocks inside a list block yet.

You could try the classic block, and add your list and code to it, but I guess that depends on what you meant to do with the rest of the list content.

Thanks for the response. Is the classic block basically adding a block that behaves like the old editor? If so, that will do what I need for now. I had disabled Gutenberg and switched back to the old editor, but this sounds like the best of both worlds.

That’s correct, the Classic Block is just the Classic Editor embedded inside Gutenberg for convenience (and a smoother transition of old content once WordPress 5.0 is released).
