How do I export a modified theme? No Export option/button.

    I just updated my blog to v6.0 and I’d like to export a Theme but I see no way to do it.

    I installed a free theme years ago and have since modified it right down to the script level (both PHP & CSS.) I’ve added custom text & graphics with everything formatted as desired. Now I wish to export it to share with a friend.

    But I see no “Import/Export” option/button anywhere. Even the “Tools | Export” menu does not have an option for themes.

    What am I missing? Everything I’ve read says importing/exporting themes is built-into 6.0 and easy, but I see no way in which to do it.

    Looks like you missed some important detail in those articles.

    That’s ONLY for Full Site Editing (FSE) themes, the new way themes are built in WordPress.

    It’s not for classic themes.

    For classic themes, you’ll have to access your server’s file system to download the files… via FTP or your host’s web-based File Manager. There’s also a couple of File Manager plugins you could use to do the same.

    So if I create a new theme using the new FSE Theme template, there will be an import/export option?

    Sorry for the late response: life got in the way 😀

    You can easily export any FSE theme from the Site Editor (APPEARANCE => EDITOR. Note that you’re exporting the entire theme, not individual templates. This downloads a zip file containing all the individual theme files.

    To IMPORT the theme back, you go through the same process as you’ve always done uploading a new theme to WordPress from your computer: APPEARANCE => THEMES => ADD NEW => UPLOAD THEME.

    But, whereas before you’d get a nice warning that the theme FOLDER already exists and the upload halted, now, in addition to the warning, you’re given the option to REPLACE the existing theme with the new one:
