How do I install WP-PAGESPLUGIN?

    How do I install this? I already put the plugin on my server and activated it through wordpress but, when I try to change ‘next_posts_link()’ and ‘previous_posts_link()’ to <?php if(function_exists(‘wp_page_numbers’)) { wp_page_numbers(); } ?> it changes back right after..?
