• I set up a WordPress.com site then had it hosted on my own domain. As yet I have no content. I now want to use ww.wp.xz.cn instead but can’t find any simple steps on how to do this.
I don’t want to transfer content over (as there is none yet), I just want to start from scratch with a ww.wp.xz.cn site that will appear under my URL (instead of the current WordPress.com site that comes up).
    Can anyone help?

  • All you need to do is get a hosting account set up, install WordPress, and change your domains nameserver settings to point to yur new hosting account. That’s all there is to it. Your hosting company will be able ot give you all of the details that you need, and your domain registrar will be able ot help you with where those details need to go.

Thanks, I already have a hosting account set up and have installed WordPress – and this currently points my wordpress.com site to my own domain which is noticingthenow.com.
I don’t know how to set up a new blog under ww.wp.xz.cn, so that I can change over.

You should hopefully have a temporary URL that you can use ot acces sthe new site, so that’s where to start. You can set up yur .org site using that. Then you can export form .com and import into your .org site.

Thanks, but what I am struggling with is how to set up a new site. How do I set up a .org site?
It sounds like the easiest thing to do would be to pay for a Guided Transfer, but it says I already have to have a .org site set up – and I can’t work out how to create a .org site.

That sounds like something to talk to your hosting company about. If something is saying that it’s already set up, that normally means that somethings been set up before now. Just from that I’m going ot guess that you’ve tried to install it through one of the automated installers that most mosts have? If so, there should be a way in that same area to remove it as well. If you can’t find anything your hosting company is definately who you need to talk to for help.

I really appreciate you help, I’m not sure if we are on the same page.

Here are the steps I followed:
    1. I registered a domain name with Go Daddy
    2. I paid for hosting with Hostgator
    3. I created a WordPress.com blog – http://noticingthenow.wordpress.com
    4. I did the Quickinstall of WordPress onto to Hostgator site
    5. I got Hostgator to set up my account so that my WordPress site lost the wordpress.com URL and appeared as noticingthenow.com. And that is working.
    6. I paid for a premium theme from Woothemes – they have said it won’t work because I don’t have a ww.wp.xz.cn site

So – what I am trying to do is work out how I can set up a ww.wp.xz.cn site. I can get anything redirected until I can set up a ww.wp.xz.cn site, and I keep going around in circles not knowing what to do next.

I meant to say I can’t transfer or redirect anything until I have a ww.wp.xz.cn site set up.

    OK, now I’m confused…

You’ve got it all up and running. Your .org site is set up at noticingthenow.com and I can see that clearly at that URL. So what else do you need now?

You have to go to your Domains control panel at GoDaddy and set the nameservers for your domain to point to your HostGator account nameservers. They are generally listed near the bottom of the left sidebar in your HG cPanel.

Search the GD Help for how to do this.

Note that is can take up to 72 hours for the change to take effect.

Here’s the thing. There are those of us who do not know ANYTHING about wordpress. What I believe lindelg is asking for is a step by step process to move from uploading a wordpress template to personalizing that template. I say this because I am in that same situation. I have uploaded a template, but I am having difficulty personalizing it, even though I am following the basic instructions. Personally, I would appreciate a step by step process to get my wordpress site to resemble that which I downloaded. Can you help, please?

@greenbc Please start your own thread – http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Forum_Welcome#Where_To_Post

Your situation might sound something like the OP’s, but your situation is different.
