How does the "Redirection" feature work?

Could you please explain how the “Redirection” feature works?

I assumed that putting a URL into that box would take me to the URL after I logged into the Admin area.

However, it isn’t redirecting me, so I’m guessing, I either don’t understand what it does, or I’m not doing something correctly.

I added a URL similar to the following:

http://mywebsite.com/wp-admin/plugins.php
