how many preload rules?

I would recommend to diable the preloader option inside the plugin and see if that elevate your situation. As preloader uses cURL it might add some load to the server. In most cases you really don’t need to use the preloader.

is preload only happening if elements are caches at CF?

– Yes preloader uses cURL to send a request to the mentioned pages in the preloader hoping Cloudflare will cache those pages. But then again, sometimes CF doesn’t cache them seeing the requests are coming via cURL. So, I would rather recommend you enabling the Cloudflare Smart Tiered Cache and if you can, get Cloudflare Cache Reserve.

the other preload in/via viewport with instant page plug in installed. is there any way to check whether this preload is happening? is that also via CF cached?

– That is nor Preload, it’s Prefetch. It’s a totally different thing. And yres you can check it in action by opening the developer tools of your browser and going to the network tab. Then when you hover on any link, you will see the browser is prefetching the link.

You can tick all the boxes but it will simply mean adding more load to the server each time you update a post or page.
