HOW TO: Change API key for stats plugin

I’ve been searching the forums for a way to change the API key for the WordPress.com stats plugin, triggered by the infamous error:

Error from last API Key attempt:

The owner of that API Key (*******) is not on the access list for this blog (*******). To be added to the access list, you must contact support.

I found several threads, but no solution posted. Here’s the link to instructions at WordPress.com:

They’re easy to follow, and the procedure worked for me. Hope this might save some folks some searching and hair-pulling!
