A site came to us after a long existence outside of our control, so I’m not sure what may have been done with it in the past. Despite WP Engine having their default PHP max input variables set to 100000 we are unable to edit the menu.

I duplicated the site and remoived all menus, unused plugins, etc. and then cleared all caches. I am still able to create or edit menus. I’m not familiar enough with how these are stored. Is there a preferred way to locate and remove these?

Which way is used to manage the menus? The way that WordPress provides for classic themes can be found in the backend under Appearance > Menu. Is that what you mean?

What exactly happens when you try to save it? Is there an error message in the browser, if so which one? A look at the error log from the hosting could also be helpful.

    Thanks for the resonse.

The site had Ubermenu on it and uses ThemeCo’s Pro as a parent theme. On a staging site we removed Ubermenu and deleted all old menus to start from scratch. However, adding a menu item just causes the activity icon to spin and console shows:

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 403 for admin-ajax.php

The host’s error log show nothing unusual.

These are both commercial products where no one here can see what they do to WordPress. They probably don’t uninstall cleanly. You would have to contact their support for clarification. Questions about commercial products are not allowed here in the forum.

Alternatively, you can also try to reset the menu completely. According to its own description, this plugin can ONLY reset the menu: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/advanced-wp-reset/
