How to insert google adwords conversion tracking code?

    I am quite new to any webpage work. I have been tasked with updating the website for the small company that I work for.

    I am trying to insert the code for google adwords that will allow us to track the number of conversions. See here

    We already have a “contact” page that I would like to add this code to. I am thinking that I need to create a new template to be able to do this. Problem is that I have no idea how to create a new template.

    I have read the help files and it says I need to create a new .php file. Problem is I do not know where these are stored and can’t find a “wp_content” folder when I log into phpMyAdmin.

    Would this code be easier to insert with the Firebug add on for firefox?

    Any help would be much appreciated.

    I just realized that we have a plug-in called “Contact Form 7”. It looks like I can edit this individually.
    Still not sure how to insert the conversion tracking code though.

    Typically the way you track a conversion is by inserting the conversion code on the “Thank You” page. That way, when a user clicks “Submit” and is redirected to the Thank You page, a conversion is counted in Google Adwords.

    1. Create a thank you page
    2. Insert your Google code on that page
    3. Redirect your contact form to that Thank you page “on-submit”

      4. I use Contact Form 7 and am not 100% sure the redirect works all the time, so I’m actually trying to find a way to use javascript function as described on this page: http://contactform7.com/tracking-form-submissions-with-google-analytics/

    I actually just ended up going to our “Contact Us” under the pages button on the wordpress dashboard. I copy and pasted the snippet of code right into the html box and it seems to be working. I was afraid the code was going to show up when you viewed the website, but it stays hidden.

    But that means Adwords will trigger a conversion anytime someone visits your Contact Us page even if they don’t fill out the form.. If that’s what you want–then that’s fine, but you should define what you consider a conversion. For some people it’s a visit to a specific page, for others it’s when a user submits a form or complete checkout in an online store.

    We were thinking that is what we want. This way if they navigate to the contact page to get our phone number, but do not submit a form it would still be considered a conversion. We are going to try this for a bit and see what results we get. We can always adjust later.

    Sounds like a good plan. It will still give you good data such as which ad groups and keywords are leading to more active visitors and better sales potential.
