How to practice without going live/publishing?

    I am new to WordPress. Is there a way to practice and create a website without all of the changes being published live? I like finalize everything before making the website open to public?

    Settings > Privacy > Then select:
    “I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors.”

    Although your site would essentially still be live, you won’t have the search engines crawling it until you’re ready. At that time then you would want to be sure to change the setting.

    You could also use a plugin like this, although you won’t see your changes on the front end while you’re practicing.
