How to set default screen options?

    I need, or should say – would like to, eliminate some of the “Screen Options” from the WP Dashboard. I have a group of sudo-computer literate volunteers that don’t need to be confused by all the unrelated to their task links like WordPress News, Blog etc.

    I found this: How to set default screen options? but when placed in the theme’s function.php it did nothing. Placed in the wp-includes functions.php it error on the add_action() function call.

    Thoughts?
