How to stop WordPress automatic updates

I would like to disable automatic WordPress updates, as 5.02 version is causing problems on my website, so I want to keep 4.99. version until I fix these problems. I tried to edit my wp-config.php file and insert define( ‚WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE‘, false ); and I also installed and set „Easy Updates Manager“ and „Disable All WordPress Updates“ plugins to stop automatic updates. Unfortunately this doesn’t work and every morning my WordPress is back in 5.02. Any advice what to do?
