Hi there – I’m sure I’m missing something obvious, but is there a post that explains how version control works? I keep ending up with two separate documents in the folder. They have the same name, and I enter different version numbers. Both files are labeled “current.”

I think there should be one listing of the filename, and the “Show Versions” selection will show the various versions, right? Then we can pull up older versions if we want to.

    Thank you!

You are right to be confused that is not how version is suppose to work, sounds like you may have found a bug. When up upload a new file it should update the original file then make a versioned backup of the old one.

Here is what it should look like, click on the version tab:

Thanks for your reply! I double-checked my versions, and my WordPress is 4.9.4, and PHP is 7.0.21, if that matters at all. I am running an IIS server, and not Linux. It’s a Windows Server 2012 R2, IIS 8. This is for our company intranet. Do you have any suggestions?

i;ve seen this issue once before a long time ago, but I can’t remember what the fix was. Does this happen with every file or just one?

I will look back and see if I can find out why this happens. My gut is tell me it has something to do with the name of the file.

Can you also give me an example file name?

It does happen with all files. I’ve been testing with Lorem Ipsum.docx and also this one: 1012634 – In-Chamber Calibration Tool User Guide.docx and also .pdf. In the filename field when I’m uploading, I just leave the name of the file, without the extension.

I’ve tried with the Add New File button, and also the Batch process using the FTP directory. I’ve been making sure that the filenames of the different versions are the same. Then I change the version from 1.0 to 2.0, and add a description of what the new version contains. It adds a number, like 1, to the file name. So, the updated version of LoremIpsum.docx becomes LoremIpsum1.docx.

When you are updating a file for example the Lorem Ipsum.docx you are clicking on the files dropdown menu and clicking on the “Manage File” Link then uploaded the new document there right?

Sorry, I have to ask these questions 🙂

Yes, that’s right. And the filename is the same as the original file. I think that’s correct – is it?

Please ask anything you want! It’s very likely that I’m doing something wrong! Could it be an issue with the IIS server? I know that most servers are Linux/Apache.

I was doing it wrong. 🙂 I was not using the Manage File link. Now, it’s working great!

Thank you so much for all of your help today.
