Hi @wale8989,
Thanks for your patience on this. Unfortunately changing your domain from http to https would definitely reset your share counts.
The functionality for share counts to display from an old URL does not exist. However, it is possible to get the old share counts back, but it is a bit of a hack. Also, the downside of doing this hack would mean that you will not be able to see the new share counts appear for the new URL moving forward. It will only display the old one.
So for each post you want to show the old share counts for, you will need to change the data link to the old URL. For example, you will need to find this code for each post:
<div class=’shareaholic-canvas’ data-app=’share_buttons’ data-app-id=”xxxxx” data-link=’http://www.my-website-old-URL.com’></div>
The “xxxxx” is the share buttons location ID number that can be found in your settings.
Then you will need to change it so the word data (from data-link) is removed, like this:
<div class=’shareaholic-canvas’ data-app=’share_buttons’ data-app-id=”xxxxx” link=’http://www.my-website-old-URL.com’></div>
In the area where I have the URL example, you will need to replace it with the old URL you had before changing the permalink.
Let me know if you have questions or get stuck. Happy to help.
Thank you,
Mary Anne
We have some good news! We have released a brand new Share Count Recovery feature that recovers any ‘missing’ shares that may have been lost in a http to https or domain name change.
Once active, Shareaholic will begin to fetch share counts for both URL’s, add them together and display the combined total. Voilà – all your hard work and social proof will, again, be fully accounted for!
