• Hi there,
We changed the domain of our site from .in to .net and the hosting server was also changed from free to paid. I get message ‘DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN’ while clicking on a hyperlinks set on product display page and ‘ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED’ while clicking on hyperlink set in header submenu pages, both of which majorly links to certain size chart / pattern images. Both message shows ‘The server at abc.in can’t be found, because the DNS lookup failed’ when detailed.

I was not having this trouble since few days back as old .in domain was valid simultaneously to .net domain and the link was fulfilled. Free server hosting, i assume, remains hosted anyways till it’s admin remove it forcefully being ideal. All these was arranged by my friend who died recently in an accident.

Request you to assist me to remove old hyperlinks and set new one to my requirements on both the locations.

    Thanks v. much.
    NIRAJ.

  • Hi,

    Check this plugin https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/better-search-replace/
You are able to change/edit all old urls/links in bulk.
Be careful and backup database first.

Also it would help you, if you can redirect old domain to new one.

    Hi Peter,
Thanks for your help . My problem got solved partially. i.e. Hyperlinks sitting on header menu now are getting redirected without any troubles as i got the syntax changed. But the items which are sitting on product display pages ( i.e. ‘measurement chart’, ‘inquire now’ and ‘downloads’ ) and are having separate pop up mechanism still gets directed to .in domain syntax only inspite of manually getting the syntax changed to .com through ‘Better search replace’. Pl note that most of the syntaxes those got replaced were lying in wp_option, wp_postmeta and wp_post only.

Just to let you know, still when i log in through admin to .net, automatically the site gets redirected to .net and than when i put .net domain in that browser again, the actual admin panel opens up. Same while logging out, it gets automatically redirects to .in domain.

Pl help me to get rid of .in domain which is already expired. Also if i could recreate the pop out mechanism for hyperlinks sitting on product display page, it shall be great.
Your help in any respect shall be thankful and obliged.
Pl nont my current domain name—-> http://www.kinkfashions.net
    Thx-NIRAJ

You can also give this PHP script a try:
    https://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/

It is the recommended way to completely replace something from the WordPress database.

    Hi again,

If you rewrite all .in to .net with that plugin – it override all data in database. If you still experience some issues it means you have linked old url in some files – css/javascripts or some plugin files …
Looking to source code there are still many linked .in
Not sure if just turn these plugins off and on will resolve it, maybe you have to edit these files manually or delete and reinstall/rebuild these plugin again.

You use many plugins and theme looks not so simple too, so you have some search for old urls in files and replace it.

I am not familiar with all these plugins and settings, theme so can not help you, if its not huge job, maybe the best would be just delete it, install again and set things again.

    HI there,
Pl note that the the app (interconnect/it//DOWNLOADDATABASE SEARCH AND REPLACE SCRIPT IN PHP) seems to be not compatible with my WP 4.0.8. Hence i used ‘Better Search/Replace ( BSR ) for each and every individual table trying to replace .in with .net. 118 syntaxes got changed additionally to earlier ones. Still the problem narrated, persisted for the remaining hyperlinks.

Hence as suggested, i tried to replace .in to .net in each CSS and PHP files by copying the content and scanning it on microsoft word page kinkfashions.in and replacing it with with .net.
Although donkey method, but it worked miraculously and now balance hyperlinks are also done.

The only problem that still remains is redirecting on log in and log out. it still leads to .in page which displays that server does not exist. One has to quote .net domain again in the same place to get the right page.

Pl also note, as suggested, i checked scripting and settings of all active plug ins for all active files , in the similar donkey method mentioned. But it seems, at places it is replaced necessarily and where it wasn’t, i did it. still the problem persist.
I’m afraid to lose the data if i deactivate all active plug ins and activate the same, as suggested.

    Pl help.
    Thx.

    Hi,

If you turn off and on plugin you will not lose any data.
Why do you use WP 4.0.8, not the latest version? With old version you will force troubles sooner or later.

    Hi peter,
Are you sure for the plug ins that off/on shall not make me lose any data in any way? If so i could well give a try. Again, is that the only option left to get rid of the problem under ref.?
Request you to confirm for the above.

Also, i always wished to update WP to latest one but had a threat in mind ( also fed by many ) that the new WP might face compatibility issues with many plug ins which are already installed, making the site non functional, if not completely, at least partially.

Pl note that mine is a live e commerce site. Is there a way to have a dry run first or to create an alias where i could check the things necessarily and thoroughly before making it live. I always have latest back ups but uploading the back ups to rerun the site if it crashes, is a tedious and hectic job which requires more than one individual entity to get involved and out come is mostly not time bound.
I hope you also agree with the same.

Your input shall be helpful, as always. I’m obliged.
    Thx.

    Hi NIRA4,

I am sorry, for late answer, I forgot about you 😉
If you turn off the plugin, not any data from the database are deleted, it’s safe. Anyway, I am not sure, if this helps you with your issue.
Sure you should try to update and make any changes to “testing” site. It depends on where you host your website, what plan you have … some offer “staging” area or you are able to host there more domain or temporary domain for testing. You have to ask your host.
Then you can copy the whole site and try everything there.

Anyway updating WordPress will not break anything that is well coded and updated too.
So check all your plugins/theme if these are compatible – updated.

You can also check something like this http://versionpress.net/
There are available some backup services which are relatively easy for restoration of your site with just a few clicks (costs few $ per month)
The most important thing from all is to have backup all files and database of your site, then you are relatively in safe mode if anything will happen 🙂

    Hi Peter,
I could not be so active as was not keeping well. Now i’m back in action partially.
    Sorry for the delayed communication.
I did as suggested, but the original problem still persists of redirecting to old .in domain while log in and log out. Besides, i also got most of plug ins updated to latest ones along with WP 4.4. It went well except few of the theme template says it is outdated and need to be replaced to have trouble free web site. The message remains as follows.

I referred to the support communique on the issue but it remains highly confusing.

Also the ‘ Contact Form 7’ plug in which was working fantastic earlier has snag now. When some one tries to send mail or inquiry, the mail does not go and so is the message for all such forms and inquiries.

Your timely response in all issues narrated above shall be highly obliged

    Thx.
