I’m starting a blog. I’m trying to link to a page and I tried the href hyperlink. It was just text so I looked up how to hyperlink.

I don’t have the link icon in my toolbar over the word. I’m on an iPad and I’m using a self-hosted domain.

I’m in Block mode now but I remember years ago that I had a toolbar across the top of my WordPress pages. I didn’t use WordPress for many years due to a coma. I feel bad that I can’t remember how to link without the icon .

Could you please help with this?

The easiest way to add a hyperlink is to just highlight the text you want to link and paste the URL you want to link to. It will automatically convert to a link to that URL.

For other methods though, please follow the steps under https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/article/paragraph-block/#block-toolbar

Thank you. I found that information last night. If I highlight the word, nothing shows up to paste the url. The toolbar has a html in tiny print and a bigger darker html. The latter changes the text letters to smaller and no place to put the url. The former does the same thing to another sentence.

I tried both block and document. I can’t hover over the word or symbol on the iPad.

Basic html is just showing up as the code

If I highlight the word, nothing shows up to paste the url.

Nothing will show up, just highlight the word(s) and paste, either with your keyboard command or right-click on your mouse.

The toolbar has a html in tiny print and a bigger darker html.

That doesn’t sound right at all. Would you please share a screenshot with https://snipboard.io/ ?

I’m using my iPad and don’t use a mouse

I’m disabled and can’t take a screenshot with both hands. The online instructions show the html toolbar with a tiny and bigger html screenshot.

I’m tried the app as suggested online. It’s more confusing than the other version of self-hosted WordPress

Ok, the easiest way on an iPad would definitely be the app: https://apps.wordpress.com/mobile/

But, if you’re using it in-browser:

    1. Copy the URL you want to link to.

    2. Select the text you want to be linked and choose paste: https://support.apple.com/guide/ipad/select-and-edit-text-ipadac2fea3c/14.0/ipados/14.0

Thank you. It doesn’t work as they say. I highlight the word and I can’t do anything with that. Only the HTML toolbar is there and it just pastes in the code. I can’t link to my pages.

Whomever wrote the guide didn’t have an iPad.

That’s a support document about how to select and paste on an iPad from Apple, the company that makes iPads, so I’m pretty sure they know how to use an iPad.

Which version of iPadOS are you on?

Taking a screencast on an iPad is very difficult, but here are a few screenshots:

Following https://support.apple.com/guide/ipad/select-and-edit-text-ipadac2fea3c/14.0/ipados/14.0 this is what happens:

This is what happens when you select the text you want to add the link to: https://d.pr/i/Aq0K25

Having copied the desired link earlier, choose Paste, and the link is created: https://d.pr/i/LyvEJL

Alternatively, though I do find the paste method easier (less steps), you can add a link by clicking the button I’ve highlighted in green: https://d.pr/i/oJLSEv

Clicking that brings up this interface: https://d.pr/i/RULAs0

These screenshots were all taken in Safari, running on an iPad with iPadOS 14.2, on a site running WordPress 5.5.3.

Thank you but I don’t have the link showing up that you do. I’m trying in the browser and the app. The first.pr link you have is not showing up for me. I’m using the same iPad iOS but it doesn’t work.

I can’t build my website without the links. I looked at alternatives to WordPress and they all are awful and too complicated.

The app looked good until I realized that they have no sidebar. So I can’t tell people to look for the links on the sidebar. I wouldn’t need a direct link but just a note to look on the sidebar.

I’m doomed. I tried to screenshot the page but you’d need two hands.

Thank you but I don’t have the link showing up that you do.

Are you maybe stuck in Code mode on the editor?

See this screenshot here to the right? https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/article/wordpress-editor/#how-to-switch-off-fullscreen-mode (sorry not near my iPad right now)

See where it says “Editor” on the bottom of that screenshot? Well, below that is where you’d choose the Code or Visual editor.

So, tap that vertical-3-dots menu, and make sure you’ve chosen Visual from the menu that drops down under the Editors section.

The app looked good until I realized that they have no sidebar. So I can’t tell people to look for the links on the sidebar.

Sidebars are part of the theme, entirely separate from the app. If your site does not currently have a sidebar, just choose a new theme that has sidebars.

    Here’s a screenshot of what I’m referring to: https://d.pr/i/eoIbFo

Again, this is from Safari, running on an iPad with iPadOS 14.2, on a site running WordPress 5.5.3.

My theme is Savona which has a sidebar. I used it for another site. The sidebar is not showing up though on the app on browser.

I’ll check the settings for Visual in a bit. Thank you.

    (@sicksquirreltwo)

The sidebar is there now! Now I’ll attempt to hyperlink in my browser and then I’ll post the results. Thank you

I’m on my iPad and will try to screenshot it if I have errors but I can’t promise it without two hands.

    Hopefully this will work.

Nope. I can’t find the link to paste the copy of my work.

    Thread Starter SickSquirrelTwo

    (@sicksquirreltwo)

I added the link but it appears in code though I’m in Visual mode.

chedule is posted for your perusal. I’m fairly firm in my pricing but negotiations are welcome. Click on http://www.xxxxxxxxx.com/pricing/ Pricing to see our pricing list.

Technically you should see Pricing hyperlinked without the code. Do you understand what I’m trying to do? I’m missing a step I think or I can’t hyperlink it correctly.
