Hi ozmee5554, I’m unhappy as well that it did not work out right for you.
Before any upgrade, please read the documentation about upgrading first. This is very important, because it explains which steps are to do (update is not quite automatic with wordpress, the users plugins and a roll-back is only possible if you backup your database).
Before you install | Installing WordPress | Upgrading WordPress
Before I upgrade a Blog I check that the plugins are compatible with the new version (most problems come out of this). Then I do a test-install with the new version that is not life. If problems occur, I try to fix them in this install and discuss problems and fixes here in the forums, bugs go intro trac. If you’re not a coder you can atleast ask authors of your plugins if they are willing to help/port a plugin to the new version. If not, hey, that’s what it is: Free Software. You’re even free to use it.
