I cannot restrict media

I’ve been able to use restrict access to only allow certain user roles using to access certain post categories and certain pages and it works like a charm. If you’re not one of the specified users you are redirected to the log-in page. However when I try to add media to the list of restricted items to the list. I can still access them when I type in their URL directly to the browser even when not logged in at all. Is there an extra step I’m missing?
