I Have the latest realease of XAMPP installed on my computer and running fine. But just cannot seem to install wordpress. I followed the directions (to the best of my ability) but keep getting object not found, or wordpress already installed. I know nothing of php or mysql. Create a database? Yeah right. It is simple…just put it in your root directory…Okay then. Where is that?

Could somebody just tell me where to put it all and then what.

    No…I had not

Okay, I just followed it exactly. Getting closer! Now at least I get something. And this is what I get.

    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

Everything is running so, now what?

On a basic install of xampp where you have changed nothing, the wp-config.php is shown there, so I assume that you have changed something in xampp ?

Nope. As a matter of fact, after that link you gave me, I uninstalled xampp, then reinstalled it fresh and followed the directions on that site exactly.

Before, I got an error saying object not found. After following the directions I get the error I posted.

    Hey…at least that is something!

I’ll be damned! I don’t know what I did differently this time, but it works!

It is installed! Now it is playtime!

    Thanks for your help.
