I cnnot log into WordPress

I attempted to update a WordPress plugin. It appeared to be successful. However, when I clicked on return to plugin page I received a blank screen with:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STATIC, expecting T_STRING or T_VARIABLE or ‘$’ in /home/content/t/h/e/thehamptons/html/work/wp-content/plugins/backupwordpress/classes/class-hmbkp-path.php on line 74

Now whenever I attempt to login to WordPress I get the same screen.
