Idea: iPhone style comment notification

Is there a script that would create a live notification for each individual post that would look like the notification on the iPhone when you have a new email, app update, missed call…etc?

I’m guessing this would have to be done with Ajax and cookies, but I just don’t know enough coding to do this from scratch. Is there possibly a plugin that does something like this that I could change the images I wanted to display for new comment notifications?
