• Hi, good people, here is a question:

I’m doing a WP mu installation. Everything has been fine so far, but when it comes to non-punycode domain names I just don’t get it right.

In my installation I use WP domain mapping plugin. Works fine,- it even allows me to change domain name in “Edit” menu directory, so the mapping function has really been unneccessary. But all the good stuff happens only to the “typical” domain names. As soon as I try to set up a non-pynycode name there’s no way I yet managed to produce a WP mu site with a decent adress-line.
I did then install the IDNA plugin, but things got even worse, since I now not only have a problem with making the adress-line look right, but no page in the browser at all(client side).

I wonder if anyone have had this problem before,- how did you solve it?

Btw, my domain names are originally registered in IDN, all native letters(ÆØÅ) intact. WP mu installation is on a different host, wich requires IDN-translation of domain names to park them on top of the main, wich is done. Found out now that when i delete a mapping note in “Settings>>Domains” I can get a page, only that it adresses to IDN.converted name, so IDNA plugin doesn’t seem to work.

    Similar experience, anyone?..

I’ve passed this on to some of the brains behind the plugin for domain mapping.

    Thanks!

    update:

Deleting the mapping-thing of he page in “Settings>>Domains” directory helps getting the page back on the screen, but then it is impossible to map the page as it has an independant adress… And at all,- there is a bunch of combinations of turned on/off IDNA and domain mapping plugins and url/mapping notes that produce a number of effects both on adress-line and on page layout, but never the most obivious and desired…

It’s like I would make an own database on theese effects anytime soon, just to see the pattern.

And so it goes, leaving me behind in no joy and lollipoplessness…

My question still, if anyone did solve this kind of a problem before?

    Hi Sajmn,

Have you tried with a punycode name?

Hi, punycode works, it’s only that I’ve wanted them names to appear as autonome domains, ie: “domain.com” not as “domain.network.com” This is normally, for the names that do not contain native letters, fixed with domain mapping plugin no problems.

It’s for the other, such as “boliglån.com” sort of domain names IDNA is ment to step in. But there is something to it and multisite, I suppose, that does not click. I am, for the time being having subdirectories shown as such – subdirectories.

Comments and advices from you, who have solved such a thing are very velcome!

Plugins related to DN used are:

    Domain mapping from doncha
    IDNA

    Per the devs:

per the admin screen they have to use puny names

In fact, if any of us had read the admin screen it says:

Server CNAME domain: [….] (International Domain Names should be in punycode format.)
