• I’m not a pro with code, so I don’t mess with it. I only have a few widgets and have only downloaded to plugins.

Problem #1: When I switch users and try to make a post under a different user, the bottom half of the tool bar is missing. I can’t even undo or redo an edit.

Problem #2: I’ve always copied and pasted my posts to facebook and never had a problem. Now the image I have set to be featured doesn’t show. Either the picture in the header shows or nothing at all. I tried to publicize it when I started having problems and that didn’t work either. At all. Nothing showed up.

Problem #3: This just happened within the last few minutes – The featured image won’t even show on the blog with the new posts. (I would share a link to show you, but I’ve taken them down since they look unprofessional and sloppy now)

The only thing that has changed is that wordpress updated itself.

I use this blog just for family and friends. I’ve never touched the code or anything. All this stuff just simply stopped working when it updated. My boyfriend and I are traveling across the country right now and posting as we go. This is a huge inconvenience. I paid for hosting so I wouldn’t have to worry about this stuff… 🙁

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Were you aware that WordPress is free, open, source, software and is unrelated to your hosts – paid or otherwise?

I already tried resetting the plugins. It didn’t have an effect either way. I had already had all of those plugins well before I started having problems so I wasn’t surprised there.

I guess it’s possibly the theme, but I’ve had it from the start. I also really don’t want to take down the whole site and start over. I don’t have time for that. I have access to the internet only a few hours a week as we travel.

I have no idea how to reset the plugin and have no idea what FTP and Php… is or how to go about using them properly.

I have no idea how to go about deleting folders (I didn’t even know there were folders) and don’t want to start since getting any help if I mess anything up is apparently impossible.

Maybe I’m on the wrong site for help. I have a site on ww.wp.xz.cn not the free wordpress.com. Weird since this is where the help button brought me…

It’s a necessary step to troubleshoot the issue. You need switching to the unedited default Theme (Twenty Sixteen, etc.) for just a moment to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

I have no idea how to reset the plugin

Have a read of this codex article: resetting the plugins folder

    no idea what FTP

Have a read of these codex articles:

For further assistance on how to use FTP, you may also want to contact your hosting provider
