I have 2 distinct problems here. The first one is a problem I’ve had since I first installed WordPress: it simply will not upload images. I’ve even made the entire wp-content folder 777 chmod, and still nothing. I am using NextGen gallery manager and that uploads fine, so what might be the problem with WordPress?
There is no error code, it simply says there’s an error and can’t upload right now tut
Secondly, for no apparent reason it is not displaying my images correctly when I ftp them up. No matter what size I make them or ask it to display in, they display in the same, smaller size, often made square for some reason!

This problem is now resolved. Here is the text received from my hosts:

    Hello,

This has been fixed. I have disabled open_base directory in php.ini and changed the path of uploading to default in wp-admin.

I am able to upload an image named “Chrysanthemum” to your website using media.

Please check the same and update us if you still face any problem.

Sadly I don’t really understand what this means, but I paste it here in case it helps others out.
