I was having ongoing image over-optimisation issues ie. high resolution images coming out blurry on my WordPress website. For the longest time I couldn’t figure out why my images were being uploaded and not rendering to full quality.

Turns out there’s a setting in the Rank Math plugin ( maybe it’s in native WordPress). It optimizes your images to 82% quality.

IMHO this sucks and is counter intuitive. The plugin is converting to fully optimized webp images, then degrading them to 82%.

What am I not understanding here? What’s the thinking behind this?
