• On my website

I’ve noticed today that some thumbnail images are displaying as a spam ad. When I open those posts the original images seem to display OK but the spammy image is showing inside the WP editor and also within the ‘related posts’ thumbnails below each individual blog post.

My site host has scanned my site and found nothing malicious. I checked through a web-based free service to see if my site was identified as hacked and it was not. I’ve also run scans using the Anti-Malware Security and Brute-Force Firewall plugin and the Wordfence plugin.

I use Akismet and my site host scans my site regularly as well and I’ve had no issues come up.

I’ve deactivated all my plugins and reactivated one by one with no success.

I’ve checked through my image library and have been unable to find anything that shouldn’t be there.

This is really frustrating me. Anyone got any ideas that might help? Thanks.

  • which browser are you using?
Did you try on multiple browser / computer?

If the scans are clean, scan your computer too

Thanks for the reply. I’ve scanned my computer too and everything’s fine. I’ve tried 3 different browsers (IE, Firefox and Chrome) and have also viewed my site in incognito mode in 2 of those browsers and the image problem is the same with all of them. And the spammy images are showing up inside the WP editor no matter which browser I use as well.

Your website was probably hacked, but probably in a unregular way.

If running scans don’t help, try to locate the source of the images, and see where they come from. Find the source, and you’ll locate the cause and do the necessary to fix it.

    Good luck!

i have the same issue, i cant locate the image, help!
