Hello Valerie,
but I placed constraints on the size of the slider/header images on individual pages (400px instead of 500px)
Can I ask how that was done?
Could you also try to regenerate the thumbnails if the theme was installed after images had been uploaded.
Regards,
Zulf
Zulf,
I have deleted and re-uploaded the images several times, and the problem persists. I created it in two places:
1. On the slider:
Customize > Featured Slider Options > Set Slider max-height (numbers only!) – Default is 500! > set to 400.
On the slider, even being set to 500 creates a distortion, but it’s also too big for the front page (hence my setting to 400).
2. On individual posts:
Customize > TwentyFourteen General Options > Set Overall Content Image max-height (numbers only!) – maximum recommended is 572. > set to 400
On the individual pages, set to 572 is still distorted, and is also too big for the individual page (can’t see any text below the image without scrolling.
BUT, thumbnails in the grid below the slider are not distorted in any way–they are cropping themselves just fine–, it’s just the headers which are getting distorted.
Thanks!
Valerie
Sounds like you are using the Fourteen Extended plugin which has a known issue with image sizing. This is been fixed in the latest version coming up this week.
Beta testing is going on over at: http://wpdefault.com/fourteen-extended-beta-1-2-3/
Hopefully we’ll get this resolved with the new version going live.

Zulf,
Thanks! I installed Beta and it didn’t fix the issue, but I found a workaround I’m willing to do (I have to set the Set Overall Content Image max-height = 1000, set the Set Slider max-height = 450, and crop my photos to 620px height… then everything plays nicely).

Marking this as resolved!
