Hi. I want to change host and over the years without realising my disk space is 47GB. My website is simple. I may have many images and I have just reoptimised them all with EWWW Image optimiser. I have the WP optimisation on my website too.

Do you think the images are being stored twice somewhere? Can i stop WP from optimising the images or does it work with EWWWW.

I am stuck and dont know what to do because my site is optimised. It is just the uploads seem to be so much and I dont know if it is something to do with duplication or if i just need to go and delete media?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Thanks for contacting us! I think what might be happening (regardless if images are optimized with WP-Optimize or another plugin) is that there may be a number of extra image sizes registered on the site which could be due to plugins or themes.

By default when you upload an image to WordPress, it will automatically create additional sizes based on the settings in Settings > Media for Large, Medium and Small images. Other plugins and themes can register additional sizes so when a single image is uploaded multiple copies are created at different resolutions which can have a big impact on the amount of disk space used by the media library.

If you have access to the file system using your hosting provider or an FTP program such as FileZilla I recommend opening up one of the media folders to see how many copies of each image are being created just to give you an idea.

The free version of WP-Optimize does not include the feature to remove unused image sizes but this an option in our premium version which can help reduce the space used by the media library. If you have any questions about the premium version you can reach out to us on our website.

    Thank you!
