image permalink error

As soon as I attach an image to a post, the permalink changes from my site’s set permalink structure (ex. almondmilk.jpg = https://websitename.com/almond-milk) to one ending in “? attachment id”. What would cause this to happen?

Also, once it changes, the image permalink edit button also disappears so I am not able to correct it.
