Image position under menu

I am not able to move the image (which I made sticky) closer to the bottom line of the menu. I think it is possible because I have seen it on other “forever” sites. Here http://jgburdette.wordpress.com/ & http://complexgeometry.com/ But they are both using the image as a slider which I have not been able to work out.
