I am looking for a little clarification. In the dashboard it lists the images that are missing retina images. Some of these are because the image I am using is too small. For example, I am using some icons that are 56px x 56px. The plugin states they need to be at least a certain size. So my confusion is, if I use images that are bigger, they won’t be the size I want them to display at. So if I want to have my images that small, am I just out of luck with the generator? The only work around I saw was to just double the size of my icons via Photoshop and upload them with the @2x attached. Is that the best way to go about this with smaller sized images?

    Any clarification would be appreciated.

The image you upload is not the image size you use on your blog. You should learn about the WordPress Image Sizes (google). You can configure those sizes to be the ones you want, you can add new ones through plugins for that, etc. WP Retina 2x will always automatically generate the retina ones in the background.
