I’m trying to determine whether the WordPress plugin (and OpenAsset) are appropriate for my client. They need to display high resolution images on their website. The usage documentation for the plugin, when referring to syncing images from OpenAsset to WP, says “Sizes are selected as being the closest to 2000x2000px, up to 3.15MB”.

Does this mean that regardless of the image size that was uploaded to OpenAsset, the images synced to WP will be sized down if necessary so that they’re a maximum of 2000x2000px and 3.15MB?

If it doesn’t mean exactly that, please describe exactly what changes are made to the images that are synced, if any.

    Thank you.

    Hi there,

The explanation on the help page is referring to how images are selected by the plugin for syncing. Images are not resized by the plugin or as part of the syncing process.

Images in OpenAsset have different sizes that are automatically generated by OpenAsset when they are uploaded. The sizes available will depend on how the instance of OpenAsset is configured as it’s possible to set it up for custom image size creation.

The reason the plugin selects “the closest to 2000x2000px, up to 3.15MB” is to ensure there are high quality versions of the images. For example, you may want to display images in a full width page header or full screen gallery.

In order to optimize images for webpage display in different scenarios we recommend that you use the WordPress built in image resizing as documented here.

    Thank you for this info.

    A couple related questions:
    1. When you say “closest to 2000px x 2000px”, does that mean that if there’s a 1000px image and a 3800px image, the plugin would sync the 1000px image?

    2. If the answer to #1 is yes, can you suggest a workaround that would reliably sync images larger than 2000 x 2000 px and/or 3.15MB if needed?

The reason I’m asking is I’m building a website for an architectural firm client who is considering using OpenAsset. Typically I recommend 3840px-width upload size for images that will be displayed full-screen for this type of client: they use very large monitors and want the crispest possible images. We do then use WP built-in image sizing to resize if needed, and/or a separate service (e.g., Cloudinary) to enhance image download performance.

So 2000 x 2000 px and 3.15 MB for the original image size is actually too small. My preference would be for the plugin to sync the original (maximum) size uploaded to OpenAsset. That way WP built-in image sizing can be fully-utilized and fully-controlled by WP and the site designer/developer.

Can you suggest any workaround for this?

    Thank you!

    Hi There,

Thank you for this question and the context. There’s not a workaround for this that we can suggest right now but we may be able to add in optionality for image sizes for a future update. This idea has been added to a backlog so we will certainly explore it.

    Hi There,

Just circling back to let you know that since v3.1.0 there is option to sync images closest to 3000x3000px if you wish.
