So I’ve noticed that the images that are displayed in the popular post summary pages are the thumbnail size images, is there anyway I can display the full image there instead? I have a layout that requires the images to be large in size, and because its using the thumbnail image the quality is too low, that possible?

    Hi there!

Well, yes, it can be done but it’s not a straight forward thing. You’ll have to “work” a bit πŸ˜›

There are at least two ways I would go about it, but I’ll just tell you the easiest one:

    The “easiest” one

The WPP widget has a feature that allows you to either have it create thumbnails for you (AKA. “set size manually” under the “Display post thumbnail” option) or use pre-existing thumbnails (AKA the ones WordPress creates when you set a Featured Image for example.)

    Knowing this:

    1. Select the use predefined size option.
    2. Pick one of your existing thumbnails sizes (or alternatively create a new thumbnail size first* and then come back to this step.)
    3. Hit the Save button to apply changes.
    4. Go to Settings > WordPress Popular Posts > Tools and hit the Empty image cache button under Thumbnails to delete all the images created by WPP (actually this might not be necessary at all but it won’t hurt either.)

    * The catch is that if you decide to create a new image size it’ll only be available for new images you add to your site from this point on. To solve that, you’ll have to use a plugin such as Alex Mills’ Regenerate Thumbnails (read the plugin description, it explains this better than I can hehe.)

    Hope that helps πŸ™‚

Okay, I’ve hit an issue – for some reason there is now no longer an image on the actual post page? any ideas? example: http://thehashtag.us/quiet-moments/

    Hi!

Just checked that link and I can see a “hero” image at the top of the post (screen capture). Or maybe you meant something else?

Afraid that image at the top isn’t the post image, so if you scroll down on this page: http://thehashtag.us you will see the “Quiet Moments” title – just above it is the post image and if you click to read the full post now the images isn’t showing on the single post page, on all single post pages, its weird – im not sure if its the popular posts plugin or if something else has changed since i updated wordpress, what do you think?

im not sure if its the popular posts plugin or if something else has changed since i updated wordpress (…)

Could be. One easy & quick way to find out is by switching for a moment to another theme (Twenty Fifteen, for example) and check if the featured images work there or not.

You could also try installing the Log Deprecated Notices plugin to see if your current theme is generating some sort of warning / error messages, or Log Viewer to check for general warning / error notices coming from either WordPress itself, your plugins and / or your current theme.

Thank you! yes it appears to be the theme πŸ™‚ appreciate the help, even when it wasn’t related to your plugin!

    No problem πŸ™‚
