    You should go to
    Gallery->Properties->General

    and disable “Show descriptions” option.

    Hi

    When I did this I lost both the description and the image file name, I’ve seen plenty of examples where only the description is shown.

    I’m not sure that understand you correctly… File names appear automatically in the “Title” field when you add images. If don’t want display them, you should edit “Title” field manually.
