Hi, I am enjoying customising this plugin but I am finding the built-in image upload feature really unhelpful.
For one thing, you can’t select from the Media folder, only drop files or browse your computer: it would be so much better to integrate this with WP media, so if you want to re-use the same image for multiple listings, you don’t have to upload more copies of the same image.
Secondly, I am using Advance Custom Fields in the listing template to add a “Related Listing” block where I can upload images and links for other listings (since a “related” feature isn’t built into the plugin). Annoyingly, any images I upload to the ACF block are automatically added to the extra images, giving me an unwanted thumbnail below the main image.
Even more infuriatingly, if I then delete this extra image, it doesn’t just delete it from the listing, it removes it from the Media! My related image is now gone, so I am having to rethink how the Related block is going to work.
For a future update, can I suggest:
    – linking image upload to WP Media instead of a custom upload
    – making sure the extra image “delete” button only removes the image from the current listing, NOT the whole Media folder.
    Thanks!

    Hi webrightnow,

    Thanks for contacting me here.

You are correct that the media folder is not the destination for BD images. That decision is intentional and there’s a good reason behind it.

When a listing is created, BD must be able to manage all of the assets with that listing–images, attachments, content, data, etc. When the listing is eligible for deletion, BD must know with confidence that it can remove all of that info with the listing when it’s time. If we share with the Media folder, we don’t have that confidence, and could very well end up deleting images from your site which are shared (as you noted above).

Supporting the case where we can allow for this adds some complexity that we wanted to avoid for now. We can consider it for the future, though.

For the ACF issue–that’s one we’ve not seen and haven’t tested with ACF specifically that way. It may be fastest for us to discuss that offline. Contact us here with a link to this forum thread so we can continue the discussion: http://businessdirectoryplugin.com/contact/
