I’m running the latest version of WordPress, Headway Themes 3, and Next Gen Gallery…plus a few other plugins (unrelated to images).

This just started today. The images that I upload are scaled to exact size, so they are’t being resized by WordPress. When I upload an image, jpgs are being comressed very badly. And a transparent png after uploading is no longer transparent. It has a a white background.

The transparency issue turned out to be because I had a caption on the image. The white background for the caption is obviously going to show through the entire image. I can figure out a work around for that.

But it still seems like my other image is being really compressed, more than usual. I guess a work around would be to use pngs for all of my images?

I tried disabling every plugin on my site and new images are still compressed very badly.

I’m pretty sure the problem is being caused by WordPress. I looked at a few of my recent previous posts and the images also have compression. Images from earlier posts have no noticeable compression, though. The first post where the images are being over-compressed is from Feb 18th, the same day WordPress released their latest update.
