I am having a recurring issue with images in my media library. I am trying to replace old images with new images. I want to use the same filenames for the new images because the naming format helps me keep things organized.

The problem is, even though I delete the old image, and then upload the new one with the same name, the image never updates and still shows the old image. If I change the name of the file then it shows correctly, but I really don’t want to rename them! My first thought was that the images were just cached on my browser, so I cleared my cache, but the images are still showing the old versions. I tried different browsers and different devices with the same result.

I tried deleting the images via FTP instead of with the WordPress dashboard and still, same thing, for some reason I am still seeing the old image. I am not using any of Jet plugins. I have Hello theme, Elementor, Litespeedcache.

Your help will be much appreciated!

To check, do you look at the original image, i.e. not a thumbnail generated by WordPress? If this doesn’t update, a server-side cache could also be the cause. Some hosts have something like this integrated into their systems. You would then have to contact your hoster’s support.

Also check via FTP whether the files have really been updated. You will see the update date there.
