• Am running WP 4.9.4. I cannot add a thumbnail or other image to my blog posts. The images appear in the “Add Image” dialogue, but when inserted into the post they all show up as text hyperlinks in both the edit and preview pages. My theme is shapely. I did not have this issue with previous versions of WP but cannot remember if I was able to insert correct images after upgrading but before this.

Can you help me with this?

The blog I need help with is rifoon.com.

  • when you add the image, in the ‘Add Media’ page, in the right box, below the ‘caption’, ‘alt text’ and ‘description’ section, scroll down to get to the ‘Attachment Display Settings’ – there make sure that the ‘Link to’ field is set to ‘none’.

do you have one of those linked images in your site right now?
if so, please post a direct link to that post/page.

where are those linked image linking to?

    Hi Michael,
Tried the “Link to = none” setting. What was inserted was the file name with no hyperlink. Still no image.

Do not have one of the images I am trying to insert already on my site. All current images were inserted before this problem surfaced and they are different than the one I am trying to insert. However, I have tried to insert one of the old images into my newest post as a test and I get the same result. No image, just the file name as text. So, old images that worked before do not work now. I don’t think it’s the image. The images look fine when downloaded from the site using FileZilla. I suspect a coding bug in WP that won’t transfer the image to the edit page and, thus, not to the preview page.

FYI, I fixed it. Fortunately, I had installed UpDraft and backed up my site before upgrading to WP 4.9.4 two weeks ago. On a guess, I restored my upload directory, which replaced all files uploaded before this problem appeared. I deleted and uploaded again all newer upload files. All seems to be working fine now. Thanks for your interest.
